More FAQs about Human Design
Hope you’re enjoying your summer! Today, let’s take a look at a few more of the frequently asked questions that people wonder about when they’re first introduced to Human Design.
How is Human Design different from astrology?
People often wonder if and how astrology plays a role in Human Design. While I was familiar with astrology before I learned of Human Design, I really don’t know much more about astrology now than I did before. Mostly because it plays a significant but minor role, by placing the gates of the I’ching around the Sun in relation to the planets. But that’s as far as we go. The signs of the Zodiac are inside the Mandala, but just in a logistical way. The planets had to be somewhere when each of us was born – that’s the important piece but it’s not astrology – it’s more like astronomy. And the mandala shows that relationship. Here are some of the differences between astrology and Human Design: Human Design uses astrology to pinpoint the momentous imprinting that creates our specific Design. That’s the significant piece. But Human Design uses TWO moments in time to create the Human Design chart, whereas astrology only uses the birth time. Human Design includes the Earth as an important planet that affects our life, while astrology doesn’t use the Earth at all. Human Design is entirely separate from astrology; even the planetary influence interpretations differ in many ways. And Human Design is a synthesis of a number of ancient wisdoms, not just astrology.
How is Human Design different from other personality assessment tools, like Myers-Briggs, Birkman or DISC?
Each of the personality assessment tools that are used in corporate America and around the world are based on subjective questions that the employee answers. Depending on what the job is, who your boss is, or what the weather is like, you may answer questions in a different way. These tests are accurate given their perspective, but they’re limited in their descriptions and overall usage. For example, there are only four types in DISC and sixteen in Myers-Briggs. With Human Design, the only data points we rely upon are objective and are unique to the individual because it’s only based on your birth information. When the chart is created, it’s possible to talk for hours about one chart. The accuracy and precision of the details in a chart are always a pleasant surprise to my clients. The powerful difference between Human Design and the other personality tools out there is huge. The significance of a Human Design conversation for the individual is that Human Design is specific, tangible and very personally accurate.
What will a Human Design reading do for me?
You’re as unique as your fingerprints, or a snowflake, or the leaves on a tree. It’s those unique qualities that are spelled out in a reading. No two people are the same, except for some sets of twins or triplets. Having a reading will allow you to finally see the you that you were born as: when you had unlimited potential; when your genius was just waiting to unfold. It’s time to give up the STORY of who you think you are. Giving a Human Design reading always allows me to see the real unfiltered you. Many of my clients say that I’m SEEING them in a way that they’ve never been seen before.
I love Human Design because I know how following your Strategy by Type is one of the easiest ways for you to create a life that is in alignment with the magnificence that is YOU!
Why should I get a reading?
A Human Design reading will bring you a level of self-awareness that you haven’t found yet, even if you’ve been taking seminars and reading self-help books for years — like I did before discovering Human Design four years ago. In a reading, you’ll be given your decision-making strategy, and lots of other information. By following your decision-making strategy, you get to be yourself. Not the you that you thought you should be or that your parents, siblings and teachers encouraged you to be. Once you can give up parts of the current self that aren’t working because they’re not really you, you’ll find that being you is so much easier than being someone you’re not. You can be the you that you were born to be. Then you’ll start realizing how much more fun, intense and full of wonder your world is!
Is it important to have an accurate birth time?
It’s important to have as accurate a birth time as possible when you request your chart. If it’s possible, please check the time on your birth certificate, or with your mother or any other relative who may remember the timing. On many days, the energy type stays the same all day, but each day some of the gates will change, and there are a number of profiles in each day, so it’s good to be as exact as possible. Some analysts will know of other ways to figure out your birth time. For example, I use a type of kinesiology that just takes a few minutes, and comes up with a time when the birth time is unknown.
Does my Human Design chart ever change?
No, the chart at the time of your birth never changes. Who you were when you were born is who you are today. But there are two possible exceptions: Sometimes, people who have maintained a meditation practice for over 30 years may have a slightly altered chart. Also, people who have had a near-death experience may have a different chart. When you’re having a reading, it would be best to discuss either of these circumstances with your analyst prior to the reading.
